Marmara is a region in North Western Turkey. It is Turkey's bridge and connection to Europe. Turkey's largest city, Istanbul is the region's capital. This region gets its name from the sea it surrounds: the Sea of Marmara, a part of Mediterranean Sea
Istanbul is the heart of Turkey. It had been the world's capital for many centuries in the past. The city possesses some of the greatest works of Ottoman and Byzantine architecture: Topkapi Palace, St. Sophia and Chora Churches, Sultanahmet and Suleymaniye Mosques. The city is also the arrival port for most of the travelers visiting Turkey. Marmara region has other important cities as Edirne and Bursa which served as capitals of the Ottoman Empire before the conquest of Istanbul, as well as Gelibolu scene to the one of the most important battles of this century.
