Travel Itinerary of Istanbul Textile Tour
DAY 1 ISTANBUL
A morning visit to the Museum of in the Hippodrome with emphasis on the carpets and ethnographical section.that has a wonderful display of ethnic implements and room settings.Following lunch, we will walk to the Covered Bazaar best described as one of the oldest undercover shopping centres in the world containing around 4000 shops.We will be shown excellent examples of handmade textiles including Ikat , Suzanis (embroidered pieces from Central Asia) & felt artifacts from a UNICEF sponsored cooperative & have time to wander through its amazing streets indulging in some retail therapy .(L)
DAY 2 ISTANBUL FELT WORKSHOP
Following the inspiration seen in the Covered Bazaar, this is a day devoted to working with fibre to produce your own unique piece of wearable felt supervised by an expert craftsperson in a local workshop Later in the day visits will be made to stores in and near to Arasta Bazaar with discussion on available products.and how they were manufactured. Day 3 MUSEUMS & DESIGNER STORES
After lunch we will be taken to Sadberk Hanim museum to view the excellent collection of costumes & textiles with detailed relevant dıscussions of the history of styles etc. Lunch by the Bosphorous followed by visits to stores of designers involved in the use or revitalizing vintage fabrics into new original pieces.
